Four Riviera Maya Adventures That Are Not To Be Missed In 2022

The Riviera Maya is a Mexican Caribbean destination known for its beautiful beaches, luxurious resorts, and tropical weather. Visitors to this region often spend their days on the beach or in the water and enjoy fine dining at night. But those seeking active adventures can find plenty to do as well. Whether you want to get an adrenaline rush or explore the ancient Mayan ruins, there are plenty of exciting excursions available in Riviera Maya. Here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy this beautiful region.

Climb an Ancient Pyramid:

The Mayan civilization was once the dominant force in the region, and the legacy of that culture can still be seen today. One of the best-known ancient sites is Chichen Itza, a sprawling city filled with temples and pyramids. Due to the age of these structures, travelers are no longer allowed to climb on them, but at Coba, you can still scramble up a steep pyramid to get a breathtaking view of the surrounding area. Ropes have been put in place to help you ascend stairs that can be challenging during the heat of the day, but it's worth it for that spectacular vantage point.

        Cenote

Swim in a Cenote:

Cenotes are natural underground caverns filled with water. They're a popular attraction for visitors to the Riviera Maya because they provide a cool place to escape the heat or a fun place to swim and dive. Cenote Maya is the most family-friendly option for those just looking for some fun in the sun. For a more in-depth experience of local history & culture, check out Chaak Tun.

Go Snorkeling or Scuba Diving:

The Riviera Maya is a great place for snorkelers and scuba divers because it is located along the Caribbean coast. For example, Cozumel is famous for its Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, which has hundreds of species of colorful fish and crystal-clear waters. And you can swim through the Underwater Museum in Cancun, which has more than 500 underwater sculptures. But if you want something really unique, there are snorkeling or diving trips at Akumal, near Playa del Carmen.

Zip Line Through the Rainforest:

The Riviera Maya is home to some of the best zip-lining experiences in the world, and Xplor offers two courses to choose from. The longest line on the Treetop course stands nearly 150 feet high and moves along at a brisk pace, so you'll get your heart pumping. After you've finished up on the zip lines, there's a cenote and water slide waiting for you to cool off.
