Unlike most of the Yucatan Peninsula's ancient monuments, Coba is located in the middle of the jungle and offers a unique experience. The site spreads over 80,000 square kilometers and is still largely unexcavated. Mayan ceremonial white pathways connect a vast range of locations to the primary temple complex. The longest route is 100 kilometers long and leads to Chichen Itza. The highest pyramid in Yucatan is Mul in Coba (120 steps, 41,75 m). It is about a 30-minute ride north-west of Tulum and about 1.5 hours from Playa del Carmen and is well worth your journey.
